AGE: 72 • Newark

Ann S. Kearns, age 72, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Flushing, New York on November 9, 1941, Ann was the daughter of the late James Wright, Jr. and Helen Torbet Wright. She attended Wesley Junior College in Dover. Ann was a talented and dedicated homemaker.

She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Newark. Ann shared her time and talents as a longtime volunteer for Special Olympics Delaware. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and reading. Above all else, Ann was happiest when she was caring for her beloved family and pet dogs ("her babies").

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert S. Kearns; children, Michael Kearns and wife Colleen, Deborah Kearns, and Kathleen Firnkes all of Newark; brother, James Wright III of North Easton, MA; and 3 grandchildren, Patricia, Kenneth, and MacKenzie.

Friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm on Thursday evening, January 2, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, January 3, 2014, at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 276 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Ann's name be sent to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
