Ms. Cathy Gallagher Dougherty, 56, fell asleep in death on April 25, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her family and friends. Cathy fought a long battle with breast cancer and was otherwise independent and healthy up to the final weeks of her passing.
Cathy was devoted to her faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was a member of the Pike Creek Congregation for more than thirty years.
She is survived by her two sons, Brandon and Daniel, daughter-in-law Stephanie and grand-daughter, Aryia. Both sons cared for her lovingly and extensively during her last weeks.
She is also survived by her brother, Charles Gallagher, his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Andrew Stewart, and great nephew, Charles; as well as her cousins, Judith Williams of New York, Ann Walker of Florida, Lisa Walker of Maryland and Harry and Carol Lewis of Delaware.
Cathy is predeceased by her parents C. William and Josephine Gallagher, and her beloved Aunt Marie Houck.
Cathy was born on March 20, 1957 and lived all of her life in Wilmington. She was a graduate of Padua Academy and studied art at the University of Delaware. She was a homemaker while raising her children and then worked in the cleaning business and as a caretaker for many years. She loved her dogs and cats and often cared for injured wildlife. She was also an avid gardener and landscaper. She relished traveling and especially loved her vacations to the Delaware beaches. Cathy was loved by many friends, had a wonderful and joyful personality and touched many lives.
The family would like to thank all of the extraordinary caregivers who gave their unending support to Cathy throughout her illness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1103 Milltown Rd, Auditorium A, Wilmington, DE 19808. A gathering for family and friends will follow afterwards at 3719 Wild Cherry Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
In lieu of memorial flowers, the family would be happy to accept annual and perennial flowers to plant in Cathy's memory.
