"Charlie"

Charles F. Hill, Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from pancreatic cancer.

Born in Hazelton, PA, he was the son of the late Julia and Stanley Hill. He graduated from high school in 1951 where he played varsity football. Always a football enthusiast Charlie rarely missed watching a game.

Upon graduation from high school he joined the US Armed Forces where he proudly served for two years during the Korean conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star.

After his honorable discharge from the service he relocated to Wilmington where he joined his lifelong friend James "Pat" Mooney and together they establish the Mooney/Hill carpentry company. A few years later Charlie then started the C.F. Hill carpentry company which became the largest carpentry contracting company in the state of Delaware contracting with many prominent builders.

In 1972 Charlie then formed the C.F. Hill construction company and began custom building many homes in the North Wilmington and Southern Chester county PA area. He took great pride in the quality and workmanship of the homes he built. Many of these homes were located in Edenridge,Tavistock and Penn Oaks, where he became the Prominent builder.

Some of the activities that Charlie enjoyed during his lifetime were skiing, playing tennis and working out at the YMCA in Wilmington and later at the Penn Oaks racquet club, where he was an avid racket ballplayer. He enjoyed sailing with his son on the Chesapeake Bay and later in and around Newport Rhode Island. He always loved flying with his son on the many trips they made in the private plane flying to Florida.. He also enjoyed playing chess every Saturday morning with Carmen and friends and never missed that time.

He is survived by Larue Hill, of Wilmington Delaware and their beloved son Charles F. Hill JR. of Newport,RI and Fort Lauderdale, FL

He is also survived by his long-term companion Sandra George of Wilmington Delaware and her children Robert George and his wife Jeanette of Glen Mills PA and their children Nicky, Bobby, Tristan, Marlaina. And her daughter Maria Di Donato and her husband Mark and their children Mark and Marissa. Being with these children was a great joy in Charlie's life.He is also survived by his brother John Hill of Wilmington Delaware, his sister Laura Berlitz of Tampa Florida and Gloria Hill of Pottstown PA and his Nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held at Chandler Funeral Home at 2506 Concord Pike Wilmington Delaware on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 9:00AM to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharply Road, Wilmington Delaware. Burial will follow mass at the Philadelphia Memorial Park, 124 Phoenixville Pike, Frazer PA.

A special thank you on behalf of Charlie for the great care given to him in his final weeks from Seasons Hospice namely Kate Arnold R.N. and his private duty nurses Gina, Chrissy, Anita, Val and Nafita
