Chester C. Gambert

AGE: 94 • Newark, DE

Chester Gambert, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014.

He spent his entire life involved in many organizations. He also was a lab technician at Hercules for 34 years. Prior to his years at Hercules, he served in the U.S. Army, and was in active duty during World War II. He took great pride in being one of the few remaining veterans of WWII.

Two of his many joys were collecting lead soldiers, and decorating his home for every holiday. Chester was a Master Mason, who just celebrated his 50th anniversary, with the Matawan Lodge #192. He was a graduate from the Central Jersey Bible Institute, was a member of the Advisory Council for RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), and President of the Advisory Board at Absalom Jones Senior Center. He found joy in participating in many activities at the senior center.

Chester was the son of the late Emma and Charles Gambert. He is predeceased by his wife, Gwendolyn, his stepfather Gus, and his brother Henry. He is survived by his brother, Theodore, and his wife Lorraine; nieces, Virginia Gambert Mason, and husband Bill, Barbara Gambert Schlachter, and husband Donald, and Susan Gambert Mooney, and husband Thomas.
