Dale A. Dallabrida

AGE: 59 • Wilmington

Dale Anthony Dallabrida, an exceptional writer, editor and musician, died Aug. 5 at his home in Wilmington from a pulmonary embolism. He was 59.

Mr. Dallabrida was an editor at AstraZeneca and had a long career crafting the written word. He was a business reporter for 10 years at the News Journal before leaving to help pioneer an internet startup with colleagues who would become lifelong friends.

He was a gifted musician and performed throughout the 1980s with Bad Sneakers, playing bass guitar. He also was a founding member of Brandywine Jazz and was a sought-after musician, playing with numerous groups. His final performance was Aug. 2 at the Riverfront Blues Festival.

Mr. Dallabrida earned a philosophy degree at University of Delaware and enjoyed conversations and lively debate. He traced his family to the 14th century in northern Italy, teaching himself Italian and traveling to his ancestral village to meet his newly discovered cousins. He enjoyed entertaining and regularly hosted the men's spirituality group of First and Central Presbyterian Church at his home in Alapocas.

He loved his family, adored his wife and was a wonderful friend and colleague.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Eileen (nee Smith) Dallabrida; his stepdaughter, Rebecca Hodges of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; his parents, Dorothy and Joseph Dallabrida of Wilmington; two brothers, Daniel, of San Francisco, and Douglas, of Wilmington; and a sister, Diane Fisher of Newark.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9 at First and Central Presbyterian, 1101 Market St., Wilmington.
