Dominick L. Giofre

Dominick L. Giofre, 87, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born on August 13, 1926 in Wilmington, DE, Dominick was the eldest son of the late Angelo Ralph Giofre and Stella (Nesci) Giofre. He attended Brown Vocational High School. Dominick served in the United States Army Air Service Group in World War II. Following the war, Dominick became a machinist with the Pusey and Jones Corporation in Wilmington. In 1964, he began working as a master machinist with All American Engineering. He retired from there in 1990 after almost 26 years. Dominick later worked part-time as a toll collector at the Delaware Memorial Bridge for 13 years, until 2003.

Dominick was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Theresa (Janceska). They were married in St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church in 1955, and Dominick was an active member of the parish. He served on the parish council, was a Eucharistic Minister for over 28 years, and participated in many church activities.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dominick was predeceased by his sisters, Theresa M. Giofre and Rose M. Piccirilli; brothers, Vincent and Joseph Giofre; sisters-in-law, Judith I. Giofre and Pauline V. Johnston; and brother-in-law, Alfred Janczewski.

Dominick is survived and will be missed by his brothers, Francis Giofre (Jackie) and Angelo Ralph Giofre, Jr.; sister-in-law, Nicoletta; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and extended Giofre family. He is also survived by his late wife's family: sister-in-law, Helen Dillman; nephew, Joseph Johnston, Jr.; niece, Judith Hardman (Joseph); and great nieces.

Dominick will be remembered for his great jokes and smile, willingness to help others, devotion to his religion, enthusiasm for sports, especially the Phillies and Yankees baseball teams and the Eagles and Notre Dame football teams, and especially his love for his family.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Cadia Rehabilitation Pike Creek for the care given to Dominick.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, on Wednesday, August 13 from 5:00-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and S. Clayton Streets, Wilmington on Thursday, August 14 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
