Donald G. Hulslander
The Guest Book is expired.
Age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 6, 2013.
Don was born on the Hulslander farm in Troy, PA to the late Harry and Blanche Hulslander.
He was a proud 1942 graduate of Penn State University. After graduation, he immediately went to work for the Dupont Company as a chemical engineer, retiring in 1982.
Don enjoyed life, having many interests. His avid love of Penn State football and Phillies baseball was evident as he watched and cheered on his teams. He was a true fan, sticking with his teams in good times and bad.
He traced ancestors who fought in not only the Civil but Revolutionary Wars, and voraciously read about American history. Many vacations were spent touring the battlefields and historic sites.
Don devoted his adult life to serving his church. His many roles included deacon, Sunday school teacher and usher. He served as Treasurer of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wilmington. Don was a Master mason, member of Granite-Corinthian Lodge No. 34 A.F. & A.M.
After his wife, Maryanna, passed away in 1998, Don put his energy into serving others as a volunteer at the Wilmington Hospital. He proudly wore his blue coat greeting patients and their families in the emergency department and later, the welcome desk. He gave over 7,000 hours of his time over a 10 year period.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, and his parents, Don is predeceased by his two brothers, Harold and Stewart, and his sister, Eva. He is survived by his son, Richard Hulslander, wife Carol, their son Andy, wife Dana and their 2 daughters, Leah and Kate; their son David, wife Jacqui and their son Theo; his daughter, Marcia Kinnamen, her husband Robert and their son Andrew. A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either VITAS Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Newark, DE, 19713 ,who compassionately cared for Don in his last months of life; or to Elwynn Delaware Senior Reflections Program, 321 E. 11th St., Wilmington, DE 19801, where Don spent happy weekdays through March.
