AGE: 92 • Newport News, VA

Eleanor Hastings Cann, age 92, of Newport News, VA died peacefully on June 16, 2014. She was the daughter of Marion L. and Elizabeth Ellis Hastings of Delmar, DE. After graduation from Delmar H.S., she went to Hood College in Frederick, MD. She then became an artistic designer for DuPont in Wilmington, DE, in china, glassware, and fabrics. In Wilmington Eleanor met Lt. Richard T. Cann IV. Following his service in Europe in WWII, they married and began a 30 year career in the U.S. Army, living in postwar Japan, West Germany, South Korea and 8 U.S. states. Her favorite later career was serving as a historical costumed interpreter for Colonial Williamsburg. She also served as a docent in the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C. and in the Korean National Museum in Seoul, Korea.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and her dear husband, Col. Richard T. Cann. She is survived by three children, Christine, John D. Cann and wife Ginny, Charlotte Lauda and husband Paul; her brother, David Hastings and wife Joyce; two grandchildren, Robert Casper and Stephanie Elizabeth Casper and two nieces, Valerie Hastings-Candeloro and Carolyn Hastings Hermes.

A funeral service was held at the Chapel of the Centurion, at Ft. Monroe, VA on June 20th where she was a faithful member for 43 years.
