AGE: 79 • Lincoln

Eugene F. Maloney III, 79, a 43 year resident of Newark and most recently of Lincoln, DE., passed away due to pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 11, 2014.

Gene was born in Auburn, NY., on November 6, 1934, son of the late Eugene and Mary (Mullaly) Maloney. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was employed as a chemical operator with Johnson & Johnson and retired in 1997 after 20 years of dedicated service. He was a past member of Holy Family Parish.

Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rita K. (Braun) Maloney; his children, Janet Berge' and husband, Donald "Moon", Michael Maloney, Catherine Maloney and boyfriend, Frank Montgomery, Robert Maloney and wife, Karen and Rita Hinderer and husband, Ted; his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Maloney; 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter due to arrive in July. He is also survived by his sisters, Jane Balzac and Marie Clements; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Gene was predeceased by his son, Jeffery Maloney; and his sisters, Anne Banks, Emily Barton and Margaret Hendricksen.

The family would like to thank the staff of Delaware Hospice for the care and compassion given to Gene. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, April 15 from 5:00-7:00PM.

An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 16 from 9:00-9:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
