Gene L. Cane Sr. Obituary
Capt. Gene L. Cane Sr. DSP Retired

AGE: 78 • Newark

Gene L. Cane Sr., 78, of Newark, DE, passed away surrounded by his children Lisa, Gene, and Anne. Gene is now reunited with his loving wife Franny who passed away on September 13, 1998.

He was the youngest son born to Joseph and Antoinette (Voce) Cane, in Wilmington, DE on May 15, 1936. He graduated from Salesianum School in 1954, and entered the Navy for 2 years, with a deployment to the Mediterranean. He worked for the Dept. of Labor, DuPont, the Delaware State Police, and the Delaware Turnpike Authority, retiring from all jobs in 1995. During his tenure with the Delaware State Police (1959 to 1979), Gene achieved the rank of Captain, and was instrumental in Troop 6's success. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow troopers immensely. Gene was also an accomplished carpenter, and loved making items out of wood for his family and friends. These are items we will treasure always.

Gene is survived by his eldest daughter Lisa Cane of Newark, DE, her son Phillip Cane (fiancé Jocelyn), his only son Gene L. Cane Jr. (wife Denise) of Newark, DE, their son Michael Cane (girlfriend Ellen), his youngest daughter Anne M. Pedrick (husband Allen) of Newark, DE, their son Sean F. Pedrick, and Allen's son Brian Pedrick (fiancé Kim), his brother in law, Richard M. Clancy Sr., his sister in law Jeanette Cane, and his loving companion and friend for the past 14 years, Winifred McLaughlin. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His presence will be missed at the family functions.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife D. Frances Sullivan Cane in 1998, his parents Joseph and Antoinette (Voce) Cane, his two older brothers John Cane (wife Leona, also deceased), Joseph Cane, his mother and father in law Dorothea and Martin Sullivan, and his sister in law Elaine Sullivan Clancy.

Gene was fond of saying, "don't push the food!" when his children used to bring home friends for the Sunday family dinners, all in good humor. He was very active in sports with his son, baseball and especially football. He coached football for Holy Angels. He loved traveling to Disney World yearly and loved staying at the Coronado resort. He and his late wife Franny (affectionately known to many as Doozey) went on several cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean, bus tours, and train trips to Williamsburg, VA, Monticello, VA, Savannah, Ga., and Charleston SC.
