Geoffrey Randolf Myers

Of Bethany Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2013.

Born in Englewood, NJ, Geoffrey was the son of Marjorie and Charles Myers. He graduated from Northern Valley Regional High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University and played on the basketball team which reached the NCAA tournament. After graduating from Duke Law School, he worked as a patent examiner at the Patent and Trademark Office. He then went into private law practice, working as an intellectual property attorney for 38 years.

In addition to keeping up an active law practice, Geoffrey volunteered as commander of the Middlesex Beach Patrol for 20 years, and served on the legal and building committees of Middlesex Beach. In 1996, he was recognized by the Delaware House of Representatives for his volunteer efforts. Geoffrey enjoyed many sports. He won the men's tennis championship at Congressional Country Club, played baseball and basketball, and loved to fish on his boat, the EB2.

Geoffrey also was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Geoffrey is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Randy and his wife, Jennifer; his daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Dr. Ryan Barnhart; by four grandchildren: Rory and Liam Myers, and Mary Kate and Paige Barnhart; and by his sister, Fran Oestricher of Mulberry, FL.

A private memorial service will be held on April 13, followed at 1 pm by lunch for family and friends at Rehoboth Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Chesapeake Bay Trust at http://www.cbtrust.org
