Gerald Clifton Foulk

Gerald Clifton Foulk, age 79, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, died peacefully at his home on September 20, 2013.

"Jerry" was the son of the late William Henry Foulk and Mildred Clifton Foulk. He attended The Wilmington Friends School and then went on to graduate from The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania in 1952. He greatly enjoyed his Hill School Days, reveling in his love of baseball and swimming. After Hill, he attended the University of Virginia, where he developed a passion for "The University", and lifelong friendships. While at The University, Jerry joined St. Elmo Hall fraternity, and he was also a member of the varsity swim team, for which he earned All-American honors. Jerry graduated from The University of Virginia in 1956, and then went on to follow in his father's professional footsteps, attending Emory Law School, in Atlanta, Georgia, where he graduated in 1960.

Outside of his career as an attorney, Jerry was an engaged member of the community, active as a volunteer and member of the Delaware Bar Association, the Rotary Club, the Wilmington Club, and the Wilmington Country Club. Jerry also served on The University of Virginia Alumni Association Board of Managers from 1983-1989, and he was honored with Emeritus Status. He was an ardent sports enthusiast and, on any given day, could be found on the golf course, on the squash court, cheering on the Phillies, Flyers, or Cavaliers. His Little League teams still remember his generous days as a coach and his kind enthusiasm for the game. He instilled in his children a deep love for the beautiful sunsets at Migis Lodge in Maine, and the beaches of Stone Harbor, New Jersey. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, son, nephew, and friend. Jerry touched many lives and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his oldest son, Stephen Daniel Foulk. He is survived by his son David Clifton Foulk, and grandsons Maxwell Heiner Foulk, and Stephen Riley Foulk of Charlottesville, Virginia; his daughter Mary Warren Foulk and her partner, Alyson Dawn Miller, granddaughter June Miller-Foulk and grandson Grady Miller-Foulk of Amherst, Massachusetts.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 27, at 11 a.m., at the Lower Brandywine Church, 110 Old Kennett Road, Wilmington, DE 19807. Interment will be private.

In lieu if flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gerald C. Foulk to the University of Virginia Alumni Association, PO Box 400314, Charlottesville, Va. 22904.
