Age 82, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was born in Chester, PA, on Tuesday, March 11, 1930, son of the late Dave and Naomi (Cherry) Nickerson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister Joanne Glenn.

Mr. Vercoe worked for Scott Paper for 30 years retiring in 1989 as a machinist; he and his wife then relocated to the beach. He was a 1948 graduate of Chester High School; served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict; was a member of American Legion Post #28; and was a 32nd degree Mason, Jefferson Lodge. He was also a member of Nur Temple and lovingly drove one of the prized Corvettes. Always a family man, he cherished his time with family and friends. He was a member of Conley's United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. Harry was a volunteer with Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Tunnell Cancer Center for 17 years.

Mr. Vercoe is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary (Davis) Vercoe; two daughters, Karen Hartranft and husband, Perry of Bear, DE, Lynn CanneLongo and husband, Skip of Middletown, DE; a son, Harry "Skip" Vercoe III and wife, Marita of Ownings, MD; seven grandchildren, David Hartranft and wife, Abby, Katie Walker and husband, Dave, Megan CanneLongo, Madison CanneLongo, Jason Vercoe and wife, Allie, Jessica Benyo and husband, Andrew, Kyle Byrd and Kacie Byrd; and five great-grandchildren, Carter Hartranft, Carson Vercoe, Landen Vercoe, Paden Benyo and Keston Benyo.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 12:00 Noon at Conley's United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyn's Way, Lewes, DE where the family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM. Entombment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Conley's United Methodist Church at the above address or to Tunnell Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Medical Foundation, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
