Howard M. Bock, 84 of Newark, DE passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 3, 2014.
Mr. Bock was born in Wilmington on August 17, 1929, son of the late Frederick and Edith (Lacey) Bock. A graduate of P.S. duPont High School, he proudly served our country as a 30 year member of the United States Air Force, having achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. During his military career he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and retired as a member of the Air Weather Service. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Bock joined Hercules and retired after 15 years of service.
He enjoyed woodworking and was passionate about genealogy. He also closely followed the Phillies, often commenting "They're a bunch of bums!".
Mr. Bock was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Yerka) Bock; his children, Eric Bock and wife, Ginny, Anita Cowen and husband, Patrick, Glenn Bock and Amy, and Karen Savidge and husband, Steven; his grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Morgan and Conor; and his great granddaughter, Elliot. He is also survived by extended family members, Diana, Mimi, Phil and Judy, Laura and Jennifer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Lou Gropp; his sister, Jean; and family member, Michael.
The family would like to thank the staff of Christiana Hospital, Unit 2A Surgical ICU for their loving care and compassion.
Funeral services and military honors will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear on Thursday, July 10 at 11:00AM.
