James Desmond Jr.

James Leonard Desmond, Jr., 86, of Selbyville, died Friday, May 9, 2014 at his home. Born in Washington, DC., he was the son of the late James L. and Cecilia (Bostic) Desmond Sr.
He retired from C&P Telephone Co. after more than 30 years. He had been Chief Steward for CWA Local 2108 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He served in the Army during World War II and was a life member of the VFW and was Past Commander of Post 5627 in College Park, MD. He was active in his community and he enjoyed his garden, his John Deere tractor and his Cutty Sark. But most important of all he loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances C. Desmond in 2012. He is survived by one daughter: Kathy Wasley (Bob) of Middletown, MD; four sons: James L. Desmond III (Pam) of Selbyville, Richard Desmond of Riva, MD., Carey Desmond (Cathy) of Laurel, MD., and Paul Desmond of Selbyville; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday, May 14 from 5-7PM at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville where a service will be held at 6:30PM. Burial will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
