AGE: 80 • Dover
Age 80, of Dover, DE and previously a resident of New Castle, DE went with his angels on November 18th after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He served in the United States Navy on the USS Oriskany CV34 from 1951-1954 and after, served in the US Army National Guard. James retired from the railroad in 1999. He was also a New Castle City police officer, and in 2013 retired from Stapleford Bus Company.
In 1969 he became involved with the scouting as a Webelos leader and in 1979 finished as Scout Leader of Troop 221 of Castle Hills Elementary. During this time, James earned his award for Order of the Arrow. James was a Life Member of Good Will Fire Co. #1 of New Castle, Delaware where he served as Chief and held all offices of the fire line. James was a member of Saint Gabes, St. Anthony's, the Moose Lodge of New Castle, and the Smyrna American Legion.
James is survived by his wife of 54 years Dolores of Dover; his four children, James Jr. and his wife Linda of Milford, Joyce Alphin and her husband Terry of Middletown, John and his girlfriend Cheri of Milford, and his daughter Jeanine of Dover; his 6 grandchildren; his 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Good Will Fire Co. #1, 401 South St., New Castle, DE on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11 am. Friends may call at Good Will Fire Co. #1 from 10-11 am on Saturday morning. Interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private.
