James R. Dougherty "Doc"

James R. Dougherty "Doc", 93, expired Monaday, March 11, 2013 with his family by his side.

He was born April 13, 1919 to Thomas and Mary (Surrick) Dougherty. He attended Salesianum School and graduated in the class of 1939. He joined the Army in 1941 where he honorably served his country in the South Pacific for four years. After discharge from the service, he joined the sheet metal workers union Local #19. He loved his work and the men he worked with at ID Griffith for 37 years, when he retired at the age of 65.

He was active in the golf community and joined Rock Manor Golf Coursefrom where he shared many happy memories. He was a member of St Anthony's of Padua Parish.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Obie), of 63 years; his three daughters Mary Kay Hall, Patricia M Dougherty (Mike Dombroski), Ann Rodriguez (Angel), and one son Michael R Dougherty (Amy). Also survived by six grandchildren: Ryan Rios (Pedro), Kaylin and Michael Rodriguez, Joel (Teena), Darryl (Jamie), and Elijah (Cherae) Hicks, as well as nine great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the compassionate and tender care provided by the caregivers from Season's Hospice, especially Corrine and Brett; and Bayada Nursing, especially Artis.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua, 9th and DuPont Streets on Thursday, March 14, at 11 am. Interment at the Delaware Veteran Memorial Cemetery at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army, 400 N. Orange Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
