James Scotti Russell, Sr., age 99, of Methodist Country House, formerly of Newark, DE died Thursday, November 1, 2012.
He was born in Fort Worth, TX, the son of the late Jay V. and Mary Viola Russell and was a graduate of Texas A&M University.
As a young man, he served with the Texas National Guard. During WWII, he served with the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Hornet in the Pacific Theater. After serving 23 years in the United States Navy, he received an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a Professional Engineer with the DuPont Company for 30 years.
He was a member of Solomon Lodge #36, a 55-year member of the Grand Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Delaware, a recipient of the Grand Lodge Award of Honor, a 32nd Degree Member of the Scottish Right, Valley of Wilmington, a member of Nur Shrine, a long-time member of the National Sojourners. He was a member of Christiana United Methodist Church.
His favorite pastime was golf and enjoyed many rounds with family and friends.
Mr. Russell was predeceased in 1996 by Margueritte Russell, his wife of 56 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Russell Broomell and Joseph Broomell; his granddaughter, Jill Elizabeth Russell Eddy; 2 brothers, Neville and Gordon Russell, and 3 sisters, Azalie Dole, Sybil McVay and Dawn Chick.
He is survived by 1 brother, Jay V. Russell of Washington State; 1 sister, Edna Evans of Georgia; a son, James S. Russell, Jr. (Linda) of Newark, DE; 4 grandchildren, Brian J. Russell (Jennifer) of Middletown, DE; Russell Broomell (Lynn) of TN; Patrick Broomell (Penny) of Dover, DE; and Scott Broomell of TN. Mr. Russell is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Hwy, Newark, DE 19702 on Tuesday November 6, 2012 from 6-7pm followed by Masonic and funeral services at 7pm. Burial will be private.
