John A. Kelleher

Age 83, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on Saturday Surrounded by family, friends and his beloved dog Wesley.

John was born in Wilmington, DE and is the son of the late Helen (Hanby) and John A. Kelleher. He is predeceased by his wife Marie Flaherty in October 2009. John was a Librarian for over 35 years, He was employed first at Pennsville High School and later at Brandywine High School. Teaching was a vocation for John. Throughout his career he enriched the lives of many of his students, several of whom he remained close to as they continued through adulthood. He often reminisced fondly of his experiences of an educator. It was obvious of those who knew him that his work was a labor of love. John graduated from Wilmington High School Class of 1949. He attended University of Delaware Class of 1953. He earned his Masters of Library Science from Drexel in 1956. John was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid sports fan and a collector of memorabilia. John served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

John is survived by two daughters; Patricia Pawlikowski and her husband Jim of Elkton, MD and Mary Bridget Kelleher who resides in Claymont, DE. Also surviving are four grandsons James Pawlikowski Jr., Stephen Pawlikowski , Nickolas Pawlikowski and Charles Betts.

Family will receive friends in the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 6pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11 am in St. Peter Cathedral, 500 West Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. EVERYONE MEET AT CHURCH. Burial will be private.
