Chief Master Sergeant (RET)

Kenneth F. Spencer, Sr.

AGE: 64 • Wilmington

Chief Master Sergeant (RET) Kenneth F. Spencer, Sr., age 64, of Wilmington and Ocean View, DE, passed away on June 19, 2014. He was the son of the late Helen (Jones) and Harvey W. Spencer, Jr., with whom he was very close. He was predeceased by his sister, Judith Spencer.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Kenny was a graduate of Wilmington High School Class of 1967. In 1968, he enlisted in the Delaware Air National Guard and was a Gulf War Veteran serving several deployments for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Before retiring in 2004 after over 36 years, Kenny was a Logistics Plans Specialist, as well as a firefighter with the Delaware Air National Guard in New Castle, DE. After retiring, he enjoyed the monthly "Old Guy Lunch" with his fellow Delaware Air National Guard Retirees at the Charcoal Pit.

In his spare time, Kenny was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker. He enjoyed making wood Christmas ornaments for his family and friends each year, as well as decorative lighthouses. Kenny was so organized that no person ever received the same Christmas ornament.

Kenny loved to travel, whether it was going on cruises or just road trips, and was a classic car buff. He was an avid bowler for over twenty years in several leagues, including the Delaware Air National Guard League. Kenny was a great cook, who loved to cook Christmas dinner and specialized in Gluten-free recipes, but also enjoyed going out to dinner at his favorite restaurants, Cosmos and Nino's.

Kenny's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family at their beach house in Ocean View. He loved spending days boating and salt water fishing on his boat, "Emerald Eyes", on the Indian River Inlet. Kenny will be remembered for his kind and giving spirit, as he was always thinking of others.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joan (Laux) Spencer; his son, Kenneth F. Spencer, Jr. (Michelle); his step-sons, Christopher W. Pusey (Jordyn) and Thomas J. Pusey; his grandchildren, Molly Ramsey, Shane Spencer and Elsa Pusey; his father-in-law, Bob Laux; brothers-in-law, Don Laux (Barb) and Bob Laux; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Spencer (Jane), with whom he was inseparable. Kenny will be missed by his beloved dog, Sarge.

Services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the , 630 Churchmans Rd., Suite 202, Newark, DE 19702.
