Leonard C. LeCompte

AGE: 90 • Wilmington

Our beloved Leonard C. LeCompte passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care at Christiana Hospital. Leonard was the husband of the late Annabelle LeCompte, who died on December 16, 2013 and with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

Leonard was born in Hebron, Maryland and was the son of Howard and Meta Carpenter LeCompte. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp and served in WWII. Leonard owned and operated LeCompte Business Supply, Inc. for over thirty years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling together; he also loved playing golf, reading, gardening and having lunch with members of the "old men's club." Leonard was a member of the Disaster Emergency Feeding Service of Delaware Chapter, American Red Cross, and later served as its Chairman.

In his early years, he was a Scoutmaster. A man of great faith, he was a dedicated member of St. Paul's Church and later attended Aldersgate. His sense of humor, generosity, and kindness will remain in the hearts of many. Leonard is survived by his daughter Jill Benjoya, daughter Cindy Picard and her husband Jerry, grandson Daniel Leonard Benjoya, sister Rebecca Woodward, sister-in-law Jeanette LeCompte and several nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded by his wife Annabelle, sister Katherine Kerr, and brother Howard LeCompte. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Forwood Manor staff for their ongoing care and friendship and to Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassion and support.
