Marilyn Oliver Morgan

Marilyn Oliver Morgan, 74, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully the morning of May 1, 2014 in Christiana Care Hospital. Marilyn was born in Des Moines, IA December 24, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Kenneth S. Oliver and Ruth Hulderson Oliver, and sister of Kenneth S. Oliver Jr and Jean Oliver McGee (Dr. David). She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and attended Omaha North High School. Marilyn graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa with majors in English and German.

Thereafter, she taught High School between 1961-1971 in Stratford and Ames, Iowa, Belpre, Ohio and Reserve, Louisiana. Marilyn and her husband John (Jack) Morgan and their 3 children moved to Wilmington in 1971 as a result of his career with DuPont.

In 1973 Marilyn made a career change from teaching to income tax preparation and worked for H & R Block for 41 years. She became a Master Tax Preparer, and, over the years, she taught many of the H&R Block classes and managed the Premium office in north Wilmington. She was well known and beloved by her clients; Marilyn cherished the life-long relationships that were developed with clients and associates. Spring, summer and fall, Marilyn could be found working as a Marshall on the DuPont Country Club Golf courses, or in Cape May strolling the promenade, watching the monarchs migrate or enjoying an evening concert. From a young age, Marilyn was an accomplished violinist, and she played with the Brandywine Pops Orchestra for 40 years.

In her spare time Marilyn enjoyed socializing with her local bridge clubs, 18 cruises to many locations with family and friends, agonizing over the weekly crossword puzzles and reading new books when time allowed. Also, Marilyn enjoyed engaging in her grandchildren's activities, be it sports, arts or education. Sundays were special days spent with the family to debating politics, sports or current trends and events. Marilyn loved baseball and was an avid Phillies fan and rarely missed a game!

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 53 years John A. Morgan, 3 children Annalisa Ruth Houck and her husband Kenneth, Scott A. Morgan and his wife Lisa, and Jason A. Morgan and his wife Allison. Marilyn was a proud and loving Grandmother to 5 grandchildren; Thomas L. Zebley III, Bradford Sterling Morgan, Kenna Wilson Morgan, Alexander Clifford Morgan and Brynna Rose Morgan.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday May 9th at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1530 Foulk Road, Wilmington DE 19803. Friends are welcome at 10 am, the service will start at 11 am.
