The Guest Book is expired.
Age 64, of Wilmington passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013.
Pat was a phenomenal athlete. She was one of the original members of the Women's Delaware Track & Field Club. A few of her honors were standing on the podium at the Olympic trials where she just missed being part of the Olympic team in the discus throw, ran on the 4x100 team at the Penn Relays setting a National relay record and was inducted into the Delaware Track & Field Hall of Fame. On the softball field, Pat's lighting fast speed had seen her beat her own throw from the outfield to home plate to argue a call with an umpire. One of Pat's favorite past times, from the era of Johnny Callison, Mike Schmitt and Pete Rose to Shane Victorino, Pat "the bat" Burrell and Chase Utley, was to cheer on her "Fightin' Phils".
Pat was medically retired from the DuPont Company where she served as a Graphic Arts Designer. However, Pat proudly held the hardest job in the Corps serving as the Wife of a U.S. Marine.
Throughout the many struggles of her life, including her 6 year battle with breast cancer, she always dawned a beautiful, radiant smile to hide the pain. During all of Pat's tribulations her selfless outlook and beautiful soul placed the worries of all else above her own. Her innate ability to connect with everyone allowed her to be a mother and friend to all. Aside from being a Mother, Pat's proudest role was that of playing Grammy to her 7 beautiful grandchildren who she adored.
Ma, Mom, Mama, Grammy were titles given to her by her daughters and grandchildren. She will be missed incredibly but her indomitable spirit will live on through them.
Pat was preceded in death by her Father William F. Lux, her Mother Rita V. Lux and her younger sister Beverly J. Lux.
She is survived by her eldest daughter, Brandy Connell-Marando, her husband Thomas Marando, Jr.; her youngest daughter Jennifer Connell and son-in-law Jason Wilson; 7 grandchildren Brandon, Taylor, Anthony, Nicholas, Brianna, Mia & Shane.
Funeral services will be held in Tuesday, March 19th at 2 PM at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Pat Connell to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
