Raymond J. Mayfield

Raymond James Mayfield, 94 of Wilmington, DE died on January 17, 2014.

He was born in Marion, Ohio to Raymond and Esther Mayfield. Raymond served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. After his service, he attended Ohio State University where he earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation, he began his long and distinguished 47 year career as a research engineer with the DuPont Company. Raymond was a faithful member of Concord Presbyterian Church. A member of the Greatest Generation, his long life reflected the values of dedication to his church, his country, his career and most especially to his family. A man of quiet dignity, his family was the center of his world and he was devoted to his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren.

His wife of 62 years, Eleanor Marriott Mayfield died in 2008. He is survived by their four children: Melinda Stone (Harry) of Cincinnati, OH, Pam Bowers (Steve) of Jackson, TN, Jeff Mayfield (Lori) of Madisonville, KY and Barbara Anderson (Pete) of Wilmington; six grandchildren: Kevin Stone (Katrina), Raymond Stone, Clayton Bowers, Katie Sisk (Matt), Kyle Anderson and Brett Anderson; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Stone. He was preceded in death by his three siblings, Robert, Richard, and Evelyn Thomas.

A visitation will be held from 12:30 - 1:00pm, on Wednesday, followed by a funeral service at 1pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.)
