Richard Anthony Kaiser, Jr., age 86, of Wilmington, Delaware, died peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2014.
Mr. Kaiser was born in 1927 in West Orange, New Jersey, the son of Richard A. and Madeleine Kearns Kaiser. His family moved to Wilmington in 1940 from Baltimore, Maryland.
Mr. Kaiser graduated from Archmere Academy in 1945, served in the United States Navy on the USS Stanley during WWII from 1945 to 1946, and went on to graduate from Georgetown University in 1951, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
Mr. Kaiser was employed by the DuPont Company for 41 years, where he worked in manufacturing, development and sales.
As a member of St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church, Mr. Kaiser took an active role in their maintenance/restoration and Emmanuel Dining Room programs. He was also active in the University of Delaware Academy of Life Long Learning, where he studied the violin, Chinese, and computer skills. Mr. Kaiser was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was an advocate of environmental conservation. He was a member of the DuPont Country Club, where improvement of his golf game was one of his many pursuits.
Mr. Kaiser was quick witted and a passionate person who found joy in being able to contribute his time or talent to help his family, friends, and neighbors. Most notably, Mr. Kaiser was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family.
Mr. Kaiser was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Joan Lippincott Kaiser and two sisters, Mary K. Meehan and Elizabeth J. Drazek. Mr. Kaiser is survived by his sister, Madeleine M. Coon of Wilmington; three sons, Richard A. III (Judy) of Chadds Ford, PA, J. Gordon (Cindy) of Wilmington and Christopher L. (Tammy) of Ridgefield, CT; his daughter, Ann K. Ballinger (Ken) of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank those who cared for Mr. Kaiser at the end of his life including Rockland Place, Forwood Manor, Bayada Home Health Care and Seasons Hospice. Their compassion during a difficult time is greatly appreciated by his family.
Family and friends may visit from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Friday morning at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville. Interment will follow in the church's cemetery.
