Of Gainesville, Florida, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at his home in Florida on January 9, 2013. He was 90 years old. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the Army Signal Corps as a cryptanalyst.

He was a graduate of Lakewood (OH) High School, Bowling Green State University and UCLA, from where he obtained his doctorate. He went on to become Dean of Students and Vice President at Westminster College (UT), and Dean of Students at Glassboro State College (NJ) and Montgomery College (MD). He also worked for the Alfred I. duPont School District as Personnel Director.

Dr. Stewart is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Jean Marti Stewart. He is also survived by six children, Becky (Tom) Moon of San Carlos, CA, Susan (David) Bowles of Gainesville, FL, Scott Stewart of Hockessin, DE, Bob Stewart of Ipswich, MA, Laurie (Tupper) MacDowell of Greenwood Village, CO and Rachel (Jeff) Ryckert of Denver, CO. He also leaves behind seventeen grandchildren, Avery (Shannon) Moon, Scott, Brett, Steven and Sarah Jean Bowles, Stephen, Katie, Gregory, Kristen and David Stewart, Andrea, Ian and Lily Stewart, Ryan and Cullen MacDowell, Wyatt and Miley Ryckert and three great-granddaughters, Marin and Teagan Moon and Sophia Marie Stewart.

There will be a private graveside service for immediate family.
