Rocco L. Colicchio

AGE: 91 • Wilmington

Rocco L. Colicchio went home to be with the Lord on January 26, 2014.

Rocco was born in Wilmington on July 19, 1922, son of the late Gaetano and Carmela (Milano) Colicchio. A proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served his country with honor and valor during WWII and the Korean War. He went on to offer over 38 years of exemplary service as a metallurgist with the DuPont Company and had also proudly served on the Patient Advocacy Board at the Stokely Center. Rocco possessed the strongest devotion to both his faith and family. He cherished his loved ones and notably and endlessly adored his late son, Vincent.

Rocco was predeceased by his son, Vincent; former wife, Ramona; and 6 siblings. He is survived by his children, Teresa Canady (David), Mary Ann McGonigal (Charlie), Gregory (Claudine), Mark (Karen), and Karen Protz (Kelly); 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for the loving and attentive care given to Rocco.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th and Bancroft in Wilmington, on Wednesday morning, February 5 at 11:30am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday morning, prior to mass, from 10-11:15am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 South College Ave., Newark, DE 19716.
