Age 86, went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2013 with her loving family by her side. Born in 1926 in Greensboro, MD, to Elizabeth and Anton Spiering, Sr. After graduating from Greensboro, MD High School she entered the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as an RN. She also attended the Cadet Nurse Corp, graduating as an RN in 1948. Ruth was employed by General Motors Assembly Plant as an Occupational Health Nurse for 35 years. After retiring in 1991 she continued to work at GM part time until the plant closed. She was a past member of the Red Lion Evangelical Church, where she had taught Sunday School to the 4 and 5 year old children for 23 years; she was a member of the Delaware Nursing Assn., and the Wilmington DE Botanical Gardens. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, cooking for family gatherings and spending time with her family.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 65 years, H. Paul Johnson, Sr.; two sons, H. Paul Johnson, Jr. and wife Joanne, and Timothy A. Johnson and wife Vicki; daughter, Michele J. Valentine and husband Keith; 3 brothers, Glen Spiering and wife Betty, Gene Spiering and wife, Christine, and Anton (Buddy) Spiering and wife Joan; sister, Betty Mintz; 5 grandchildren, Brian, Patrick, Heather Valentine, Kevin Johnson and Dana Ryan; 2 great grandchildren, Landon and Molly Ryan. She is preceded in death by brothers, Donald and David Spiering and Marguerite Brown.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 from 10:30 to 11:30 am followed by a service in celebration of Ruth's life at 11:30. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the American
