Samuel Edward Brown died early on Monday, October 21, 2013 in Christiana Hospital following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Holsey and Frances (Harper) Brown; brothers, Jerome and Lucius; and sisters, Trudie, Julia, Francina and Walton.

He was born in Milledgeville, Georgia on December 19, 1924. As a World War II Army veteran, he returned to college and graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro and Clark-Atlanta University in Georgia. He did further graduate study at Ohio State University. He began his teaching career at Carver High School in Milledgeville and also taught at Southern and Tuskegee Universities. He later taught biology at Howard High School and James H. Groves Adult Education High School in Wilmington, Delaware.

He was very active in his community through many organizations, receiving numerous awards including: Teacher of the Year (1984-1985) - New Castle County Vocational and Technical School District; Distinguished Teacher Award (1994) - James H. Groves; Lion of the Year (2001) - Pike Creek Valley Lions Club; and The Century Award (1985) - Walnut Street Branch of the YMCA. He garnered many honors during his sixty-seven years as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was a loyal member of Limestone Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as an elder.

He is survived by his wife, Atlanta (Thomas) to whom he was married in 1965 and their son, Dale Thomas Brown; his daughter, Walton Brown Foster (Benjamin) and son, Samuel, by his wife of a previous marriage Orchid Lyons; grandson, Sulliman Foster; two nieces, Frances Echols (Clarence) and Shirley D. King; sister-in-law, Alice Peters; and brother-in-law, Julius Thomas.

Funeral services will take place at Limestone Presbyterian Church, 3201 Limestone Road, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Viewing will precede the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Milledgeville, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to: The Samuel E. Brown Fellowship Fund - Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Limestone Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or Northern Delaware Chapter - NC A&T State University Scholarship Fund.
