Stanley Peter Salamon

Age 87 of Wilmington, DE died suddenly after battling a recent illness. Stanley was a lifelong resident of Wilmington and was predeceased by his loving wife Mary in 2009 after 60 years of marriage. They had four children. Stanley served his country as a United States Marine in WWII and participated in combat service during the Battle of Okinawa. Known as the "Delaware Sailfish," he loved traveling, boating and fishing and shared that love with his wife and children, visiting 49 of the US States, and much of Canada and Mexico. Stanley was a long time employee of Miller's Furniture Company, retiring as the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley W. and Bertha Salamon, and his sisters Anna Szatkowski, Stella Osinski, Pauline Davis, and Bertha Cudnick, and grandchildren Jonathan Miles and Angela Vuolo.
Cherishing his memory are his daughters Cynthia (David) Smith, Marianne (Frank) Cowan, Diana (Chuck) Vuolo, and his son LtCol Stanley W. (Maggie) Salamon, USMC (ret). Grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Dawn Miles, Jennifer Shepperson, Valerie, Chuck and Jeremy Vuolo, and Stanley, Christopher and Margaret Salamon. Great-Grandchildren Hunter and Cassidy Maul, and Emma and Carter Shepperson, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with Stanley's family will be held on Thursday May 9, from 6:00-8:00pm, at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOMES, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, DE 19808. Visitation will also be held Friday morning at 11:00am followed by a funeral service at 11:30am. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear DE 19701.
