Age 76, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital.
Born in Wilmington, Tom was the son of Anna (Grandelle) Rispoli and the late Marcello T. Rispoli. After graduating from H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School in the plumbing trade, Tom served in the US Marine Corps 2nd Division. Tom was a member of the Marine Corps League Semper FI Detachment in the 1960s. He was a Life Member and Commandant of the MCL Thomas Holcomb Detachment in 1997. He was also a Life Member of the 2nd Marine Division Assoc. and a Life Member of the Delaware Medal of Honor Historical Assoc. with his Marine buddy, Paul L. Cathell, Jr. Commanding. Tom was proud to be a Marine serving his country.
During the late 60's through the mid 70's, Tom owned and operated Rispoli Sub Shop, later called New Castle Deli until the early '80's. He worked for the Speakman Company for 35 years in sales and then for McArdle & Desco Company for 8 years until his retirement. Tom was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Church and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus - Becker Council. He was also a graduate of Goldey Beacom College.
Tom will be dearly missed by his wife of 53 years, Martha (Sheridan) Rispoli; his sons, Marcello, Mario, Angelo, and Andrew; his daughters, Sophia Shupe, Stephanie Talley, Mary Kate Hollingsworth, and Amiee Bruce; his mother, Anna Rispoli; his brothers, Andrew and Anthony; his sister, Mary Ellen Wilkinson; 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 5th at 12 noon at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 35 E. 5th Street, New Castle, DE 19720, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 10 until 11:45 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the St. Peter Church Organ Fund at the church address above.
