Vincent Maculaitis

Mr. Vincent Maculaitis passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 3, 2013. He was born in Bayonne, NJ on April 5th, 1917. He was 96 years old. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Barbara Akenhead and his three grandchildren, Stephen, David and Catherine Akenhead. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Helen Maculaitis of Brick, NJ and Alma Maculaitis of Urichsville, OH as well by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Maculaitis of Bayonne; and his siblings, Anthony of Valleystream, Long Island, Edward of Urichsville, OH, Joseph of Brick, NJ, Frank of Avonelle, NJ, and Peter of Oceanport, NJ. Also preceding him in death was his son-in-law, Stuart Akenhead.

Mr. Maculaitis was a World War II veteran. He served in the United States Army with his highest rank being that of Staff Sergeant .

For forty years, he was a welder for Texaco Refinery until his retirement in 1982. He was an active member of the Chevron Retirees Association.

He will be remembered fondly for his amazing zest for life; his wonderful sense of humor and great storytelling ability.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road Wilmington, DE 19808 on Friday, August 9th, at 11:30am, where visitation will be held beginning at 10:30am. Entombment will be in All Saints Cemetery. As he shared his wife's love for animals, a donation in his name to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A. Street Wilmington, DE 19801 is suggested in lieu of flowers.
