Walter G. Seidel, age 88 of Wilmington, DE went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Walter was born and raised in Reading, PA then moved to Dunlinden Acres where he has lived for 58 years. He worked as a switchman at the Reading Railroad then went to work for Abbotts Dairy as a milkman for many years. After retirement he worked as a security guard. Mr. Seidel served our country in the US Navy in both the Korean War and WW II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other medals for services rendered in rescuing sailors that were in harm's way. Walter also worked as a softball umpire for 29 years and a high school football referee for New Castle County. He was an avid fisherman and member of the Lions Club.
Mr. Seidel is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty J. (née Gauker) Seidel; children, Janet Moran (M. Shane), Carol Berry (Robb), Ann LaFollette (Joe), Karen Seidel (Ray Nowland), Brenda Scheibe (Steve); grandchildren, Chris Moran (Elizabeth Inman), April Moser (Chris), Dan Moran (Emily), James Robertson, Cynthia (Manny) Robertson-Loredo, Rachel Berry, Eugene and Paul Labelle, Brandy Lambert, Paige Yanacek, Erin Yanacek, Natalie Scheibe, Bruce Scheibe; great-grandchildren, Kailer, Savannah, Patrick, Abby, Alyssa, Christopher, Mark, Austin, Camryn, Peyton, Lizzie, Lilly, Raegen, Kaylee and Travis; sisters, June Edinger and Patricia (Leon) Brobst of Reading, PA; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. and Caroline (Haas) Seidel.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 from 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by a service in celebration of Walter's life at 11:00 am.
