Webster: Carl Winfield McGraw, aged 95 died in his sleep at 6:00 AM Tuesday September 24, 2013 in Webster, New York. Born April 10, 1918 to Grace and Joseph McGraw of Kenduskeg, Maine, Carl attended Colby College graduating in 1939. After a year teaching and coaching at Higgins Prep School, he went to work with Eastman Kodak initially making cross-hair reticules at the Hawkeye Works in Rochester. Commissioned into the US Navy in 1942, he trained as a navigator and served in the south pacific in WWII. Perhaps the last man fired upon in WWII - while dropping surrender instructions on an island occupied by the Japanese a week after Emperor Hirohito's surrender. Carl returned to Rochester in 1946 and married Ruth Ellen Clearwater in October 1949. He worked at Kodak Park, building 30 eventually leading the film Formulation Technology group until his retirement in February 1980. He enjoyed skiing, golf and his family and friends in a long retirement.
He is survived by his sister Lynn Russell of Orlando, Florida, and by his five children: Lynn and Doug, both of Rochester, Dave of Campton, New Hampshire, Dan of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lee Symonds of Morrisville, North Carolina; and by four grandchildren: Jason McGraw, Holly Havens, Chris Doohan, and Sean Doohan, all of Rochester.
