Gates: On March 6, 2013, age 88, peacefully at home. Predeceased by his parents Lillian & Charles; brother & spouse Robert (Geraldine); sisters & spouses Verna (Frank) Goole & Marjorie (Walter) Komorowski; daughter-in-law Sandy & infant grandson Chad. Survived by his wife Dorothy Liedl Vogler of 66 ½ years; children Donald (Sandy), Janice (Paul) Hawkins, Rita (Bill) Snyder, James (Jeannine), Eugene, Jr. (Kim) & Larry; grandchildren Charles (Heather), Scott Hawkins, Christopher (Kelly), Jon (Jeannette), Adam (Lindsay), Erin (Brian) Hawkins Sullivan, Michael, Eugene III, Joseph, Katie Snyder, Alexandra, Will Snyder, Andrew, Benjamin Vogler; great-grandchildren Caleb, Morgan, Derrick, Daniel & Abigail Vogler; nieces; nephews & cousins. Gene is a US Navy veteran (1943-46) who served on the USS Mobile, the first ship into Nagasaki which rescued over 1,000 POWs from 5 countries. He is a member of American Legion Post 1830 & VFW. Upon return home, Gene went to work for the US Postal Service & retired in 1985 as Director of Customer Services. After retirement he worked on the family farm. He has been a Gates resident & an active member of Holy Ghost Church since 1930.

Friends may call at the James R. Gray Funeral Home, 1530 Buffalo Rd SUNDAY 2-5 pm. Funeral Mass Monday 11 am at Holy Ghost Church, Coldwater Rd. Burial in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center.
