Rochester: 96 years, passed away peacefully of natural causes, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Highland Hospital. She had been a long time resident of the Valley Manor Apartments in Rochester. She was born in Sidney, Montana to Carrie and Bill Petersen.
After graduating from Carlton College in Northfield, Minnesota, she went on to a masters program in retailing at Northwestern University. Mrs. Kerney worked as a buyer for Weibolt's and Sear Roebuck in Chicago before marrying Myron Kerney in 1946. They settled in Denver CO, where Mr. Kerney resumed his career with Eastman Kodak Company after the end of World War II.
Mrs. Kerney's interests over her lifetime included social activism, leading a Girl Scout troop, reading, tennis, skiing, golf, sewing and travel. She was a member of the Sibley Y Chapter. In later years, she worked as a Realtor for Mitchell Pierson, Jr. Real Estate in Pittsford, NY. She belonged to Third Presbyterian Church in Rochester for almost 60 years.
Her husband of 65 years, Myron Kerney, predeceased her in 2011. Mrs. Kerney leaves her four children: Gail Cashman of Rockville MD, Bill Kerney of Severna Park, MD, Karen Kerney of Jamesville, NY and Jim Kerney of Boulder, CO. Mrs. Kerney had 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
