Crews, Hildegard K.

Wilmington, DE: Formerly of Rochester, NY died on June 16, 2013.

Born in 1925 in Bischofsgrun, Germany, Hildegard met her husband, Roy Crews of Blooming Grove, TX in 1945 during his service in the US Army where he was stationed in Bayreuth, Germany. They courted for several years in Germany following WWII, travelling and enjoying the beautiful Bavarian region until his Army service was completed. They married in 1952 and came to the United States later that year.

In June, 1959 Hildegard proudly became a citizen of the United States. Hildegard was a homemaker and mother to her two children, volunteering frequently as room mother at school and Cub Scout Den Mother. She found a family in her church and was a devoted member of Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Irondequoit, NY. In 2010, she moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 2010 to be closer to her daughter and her family. Hildegard's endearing personality allowed her to easily make friends. Throughout her life, wherever she lived, she brought her cheerful nature with her and formed lasting friendships through her church, line dancing group, euchre club, Young-at-Heart group and eventually at the Masonic Home of Delaware.

Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she so loved to care for them, watch them grow into adulthood and witness all of their accomplishments. She was thrilled to recently welcome her great-grandson into her life.

Mrs. Crews' husband, Roy Crews, passed away in 1978. She is survived by her two children, William Crews and his wife, Debra from Houston, TX, and Heidi (Crews) Riesenberger; her four grandchildren: Daniel and his wife Heather (Vazquez), Tracy, Andrew and Timothy; great grandson, Kaden and her son-in-law Michael Riesenberger. She also leaves a brother, Horst Müller and his wife, Henriette, of Breitenthal, Germany.

Friends may call at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 on Friday, June 21 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM with a memorial service following at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions in Hildy's memory may be made to Transfiguration Lutheran Church, 3760 Culver Rd, Rochester, NY 14622.
