Gangale, Richard M. "Dick"

Greece: Richard "Dick" Gangale (Retired Lt. Rochester Fire Department) passed away July 2, 2014. Born May 21, 1936 in Rochester, NY. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy, parents, Mike and Grace, brother, Louis, sisters, Wanda and Adelaide, stepson, Russell Thurston. He is survived by son Michael (Donna) Gangale of Las Vegas and stepson Richard Thurston of Milwaukee; 6 grandchildren, Andrea, Kayla & Jeffrey Thurston, Ricky, Jonathan & Elizabeth Gangale. Also survived by several loving nieces & nephews, along with many other relatives and many very special friends.

Dick graduated from Aquinas Institute in 1954 and MCC in 1977. He married the love of his life, Nancy in 1962 and they shared 42 wonderful years together. Dick was a retired Lieutenant of the Rochester Fire Department after over 40 years of service. He also served as the Vice President of Rochester Firefighters Union, Local 1071.

Dick enjoyed life to the fullest. Both he and Nancy were avid NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills fans and enjoyed watching the games on TV together. He and Nancy loved to travel. They went to Europe, took cruises and after retiring, spent their winters in Las Vegas, a place they both loved to be. Dick eventually made his permanent residence there, where he enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards, and enjoying everything that Las Vegas has to offer. He also was a published author, loved taking flying lessons and volunteered his time coaching Little League baseball when his sons were young.

Aside from all this, Dick's true love was his family, first and foremost. He was the consummate husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all in his life. He taught by example the importance of family throughout his life. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His legacy of love will live on through them, as well as his extended family.

Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, July 10, from 5-8 PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, 219 Spencerport Rd., Gates. His Funeral Mass will be held Friday morning at 9:30 in St. Theodore's Church, 168 Spencerport Rd. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be made to Villa of Hope Attn: Office of Agency Advancement, 3300 Dewey Ave. Rochester, NY 14616.
