Chili: Sunday, December 8, 2013, peacefully at age 90. Predeceased by his wife, Genevieve. Survived by his children, Marcia (Charles) Havens and Denise (Daphne) White; grandchildren, Sarah (Douglas) Cox, Samuel (Holly) Havens and Vanessa White; 5 great-grandchildren, Graham and Anna Cox, Madeline Havens, Ramone and Carlito Christian; sister-in-law, Margaret Christian; several nieces and nephews.
Rich was Art Director at Hart-Conway Advertising when he retired in 1986. Despite being hearing impaired from birth, he served in the Army in WWII, raised a family and danced into his 80's with his beloved wife, Gen. Rich was born in the Southwedge of German-French heritage where he learned to appreciate a good party, and the value of hard work. He lived in Scottsville for nearly 40 years. The family cherishes the drawings, oils, charcoals and lithographs he produced over his long life. A map of early Wheatland donated to the Scottsville Free Library is an example of his work. Rich was a lifelong Yankees fan and enjoyed bird watching since he was a child. He passed his love of fishing onto his grandson, Sam. During his last few years, Rich took great delight in playing with his little great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
The family would like to send a heartfelt "thank you" to the Res #5 staff at St. John's Home as well as the staff and residents at the Chili Legacy. After the death of his wife in 2010, these wonderful people helped make Rich's last years good years.
Friends are invited to his Memorial Mass Saturday, December 28th at 1:30PM at St. Christopher's Church, 3350 Union St., N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
