Gates: Doris passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at age 98, and Sam passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013, at age 93. Sam is predeceased by his brothers, Philip and James Palma. Doris is predeceased by her brothers, Harold, Kenneth and Fred Merkel and sister, Ruth Gable. After 64 years of marriage, they are survived by their children, Deacon David (Julianne) Palma, Lynn (Michael) Dennstedt, Jeff R. Palma; grandchildren, Bryan (Marla) Dennstedt of FL, Craig (Laurie) Dennstedt, Dorilyn (Joshua) Northrup of MA, Atlanta "A.J." (Caitlin) Mattis; great grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Dennstedt, Chloe Mattis; Sam's sisters, JoAnn Petronello of RI and Jackie Kwiescinski of NV; sister-in-law, Jean Palma of SC; many nieces and nephews.
Sam and Doris were members of the Friends of Gates Library, Gates Amita Club, and active members of St. Theodore's Church. Sam was also an Army Veteran of WWII, a retiree of Delco Products, and a member of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation and various other organizations in the community. He was a recipient of the St. George Award of Catholic Scouting, National Myasthenia Gravis Volunteer of the Year, and Gates Lions Club Man of the Year in 1988. Doris was a member of the St. Theodore's Rosary Society and the Gates Women's Republican Club. She was also a ceramics teacher.
Friends may call THURSDAY from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Road, Gates. On Friday morning, June 14, friends are invited to attend their Funeral Mass at 10:00 in St. Theodore's Church. Entombment, White Haven Memorial Park.
