William (Bill) Theodore
Rochester: July 24, 2013 at age 96. Bill was most recently predeceased on June 22nd by his adored wife of 44 years, Patricia (Patsy) Smith Yorks. Bill is survived by his children, Geoffrey A. Hungerford of Louisville, CO and Ellen H. Blaine (James) of Southbury, CT; grandchildren, Jonathan and David Hungerford and Kathryn Blaine; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bill was born on December 1, 1916 to Theodore A. Yorks and Frances Lawton Yorks in Perry, NY. There, together with his older brother, Oswald and younger sister, Victory, Bill developed a life-long love of the outdoors. Bill expanded his explorations to include one particularly memorable month-long canoe expedition throughout Northern Canada. He started the journey from Bear Island on Lake Timagami, north to Matachewan and back through Cobalt. Some sections of this trip required portaging from one body of water to another. Bill attended the University of Michigan and in 1941 graduated from the University of Michigan Law School. From 1942 through 1946, Bill served in the United States Army Air Corps. Upon his return from WWII, Bill began his law career and practiced law in Rochester until his retirement in 1989 at age 73. A golfer, Bill spent many happy, if sometimes frustrating, afternoons on the greens of Oak Hill Country Club, only recently resigning his 56-year membership. Upon his retirement, Bill and his wife Patricia enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, making several trips to their adopted city, Paris. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochester. A kind, generous, humble man of abiding faith and integrity, Bill will best be remembered as the consummate gentleman and a loving, guiding presence in the lives of his family. He shall be dearly missed.
A graveside service will be held for Bill and Patsy at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Lima, NY at the convenience of the family.
