Ann Collins passed away in the early hours of October 20, 2012, after a long hard fought battle against breast cancer for the last 2 1/2 years. Ann was born on December 11, 1976, in Denver, CO to Tim and Mary Collins. The second of two children, Ann's childhood was spent in Denver, CO and Vancouver, WA. An artist at heart, Ann grew up singing in the Colorado Children's Chorale, and pursued a passion playing the cello throughout her middle and high school years. Growing up, Ann made countless friends with whom she has had relationships her entire life. As a young adult her passion for people was evident with the overwhelming number of friends that she was able to introduce to her family during her last days. After graduating from Columbia River High School in Vancouver, WA, she moved to Denver, CO, and was employed in various positions. In 2006, she met her partner in life Bill Mitchell and they moved to Mesquite, NV, where Bill is an agent/agency owner for Farmers' Insurance. In 2007, Ann suffered major physical and head trauma; after many months of rehabilitation, she returned to work as a receptionist at a local long term care facility; it was here that her positive outlook shone for the staff and residents. On May 4, 2009, Ann and Bill welcomed to everyone's lives the birth of their son, Connor Byron Mitchell. As a beautiful mother, Ann's devotion to Connor was evident in her fight against cancer, never yielding until her final breath. Her ever beaming smile, positive and spiritual outlook, and quirky sense of humor were appreciated by friends and relatives of all ages. Ann is survived by her son Connor Mitchell and her partner Bill Mitchell of Mesquite, NV; her mother Mary L. Collins of Kelso, WA; her father Tim and his wife Sandra Collins of Denver, CO; her brother Chris Collins of Denver, CO; and countless Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends around the country. In passing, Ann has left a physical void in everyone's life she touched, but we each have retained the memory of joy, love, happiness and courage that Ann gifted to her family and friends over the years A funeral service will be held in Mesquite, NV at Valley Presbyterian Church on November 3, 2012. A service will be held at a later date in Denver, CO at the Kirk of Bonnie Brae where her ashes will be placed with her Grandma and Grandpa Lundberg. In lieu of flowers, Ann has requested that donations be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or Breast Cancer Research, but more importantly has requested that we all take time out of our lives and donate 10 hours a year to the local cancer support groups by helping give rides to appointments, sitting during chemo appointments and helping clean and cook for people suffering from the disease that claimed her life so early.
