Gay Peterson Zaccaro

Obituary Condolences

Gay Peterson Zaccaro passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, here in Colorado, her home for the past 31 years. Her family has an indescribable feeling of loss, though her love, strength and friendship will carry us through. She has blessed many lives, and leaves many friends who loved her.

Gay was born and grew up in Minnesota. She attended Skidmore College and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She was married in 1963 to Joe, her one and only love, and lived in California for 19 years before moving to Genesee, Colorado in 1982. With Joe, she raised an amazing family, including Jenny (Desmond), Kathy (Schmidt) and Joe Zaccaro. Also here in Colorado and other locations are her sons-in-law, Jimmy Desmond and Phil Schmidt, and her beautiful grandchildren, Leigh and Diana Schmidt. Her family in Minnesota includes sisters, Pam Peterson, Barbara Trainor (Neil) and Lucy Dodd (Geoff), and her nephews, Gerry Trainor and Pat Trainor. Also there is her lifelong best friend, Priscilla (Teda) Fiola. Her stepfather, Keller Pollock, now resides in Florida. She joins her loving parents, Gerry and Patty Peterson.

Gay was always learning throughout her life...about food, people and their cultures, art, and other parts of the world. She traveled extensively with her husband and family, to such diverse places as Italy and other parts of Europe, Africa, Asia, the Amazon, Machu Picchu and elsewhere. She was truly joyful, and never happier than when (often with family) cooking an outstanding meal, seeing the great art in a cathedral or museum, being with friends, fishing off the dock at Lake Minnetonka, or reading a book to her young children and, more recently, her grandchildren. She loved sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and soaking in the beautiful view. She enjoyed the simple things in life and was present in each moment. Just being in her presence was a pleasure and a treat. She had many talents, including designing, making and selling beautiful gold and silver jewelry.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday,
June 1, at 3:00 P.M. at:
Trinity United Methodist Church
