Richard R. Helmick Obituary
Richard R. Helmick, 85 of Hilo, HI, formerly of Denver, died on Thursday, October 11, 2012. He was born in Minatare, Nebraska and was an attorney and Certified Public Accountant. He was a graduate of the University of Colorado and University of Colorado Law School and practiced law in Denver with the firm of Helmick , Conover&Burkhardtfrom the 1950's until 1988, when he retired to Kona, Hawaii. He also served as General Counsel to Merchants Mortgage and Trust Corporation. He was a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves, having served on active duty during both World War II and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Ilah Helmick of Colorado Springs; daughters Barbara (James) DeJarnette of Colorado Springs, CO; Elsa (Stephen) Wolff of Morrison, CO; Sarah (David Staley) Charles of Kealakekua, HI; sons, Peter (Sandra) Helmick of Kamuela, HI and Eric (Terry) Helmick of Idaho Springs, CO. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in Dick Helmick's honor may be made to the University of Colorado Foundation.
