1917 - 2013 Obituary Condolences

William Judd passed away in March (1917-2013). His wife, Rachel Douglas Judd died in February (1921-2013). Bill, the son of Samuel and Lillian (Israelske) Judd, married Rachel Douglas in 1942. They are survived by Jean (Chris) Wadley, Judy Soden, Dayna (Sherril) Grandmason, Pamela (Burges) Judd, Connie (Craig) Wolter, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and brother E. James Judd. Born and raised in Denver, he graduated from C.U. in 1938 with a degree in Geological Engineering. His vocation began with employment at the Rio Grande Western R.R., then the Bureau of Reclamation and on to the Rand Corporation in California. He co-authored the definitive book "Principles of Engineering Geology and Geotechnics". He was Professor of Engineering at Purdue University where he taught a graduate course in his field. He also did consulting world-wide. After twenty years at Purdue he retired to work with his wife, Rachel, in the antique business selling toys, children's books (first editions), china and silverware. Bill was honored by the International Association of Geology Engineers with the "Hans Closs Medal" at their meeting in South Africa and with induction into the National Ski and Colorado Ski Museums Hall of Fame. He was also a founder and president of the Southern Rocky Mountain Ski Association and the Rocky Mountain Ski Patrol. He received the 1958 Hallstead Trophy. He was the director of the National Rescue Operations of "The Seven Sentinels Rescue Team" founded by the Red Cross, county Sheriffs, U.S. Air Force Rescue, Ski Patrol, Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Forest Service and National Parks Service. A Memorial Service was held in Lafayette, IN. Interment, Friday, July 26th, 10:30am, Emanuel Cemetery, Denver, CO. Donations: hospice of choice. Family contact: memories@takingtea.net.
