Blaine Goff

Blaine Goff, 80, passed away May 4, 2013 from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at Bright Kavanagh House. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Blaine was born May 21, 1932 in Washington, IA, to Maynard and Reeva (Bain) Goff. He graduated from Washington High School in 1950 and completed one year at Washington Junior College. Blaine served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War, being honorably discharged as Sergeant. The highlight of his service was Admiral's Orderly aboard the USS Helena, and as Orderly for then President-Elect, Dwight Eisenhower, in December of 1951 after he had been in Korea to end the War. Blaine then went on to have a successful career with the Iowa State Patrol from 1956 to 1992, when he retired as Chief of Patrol. Other accomplishments include: nomination to US Marshal Southern District of Iowa by President G.W. Bush, 50 year member of Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge 574, and member and past Commander of VFW Post 9127 in Beaverdale. Blaine married Ardythe Wead in 1954 in Washington, IA, and together they raised two children, Blaine A. and Peggy. Ardythe passed away in 2002. Blaine married Kay Cooper in 2007 in Portland, TX.

Blaine is preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Ardythe. He is survived by his wife, Kay; children: Blaine A. Goff of Denver, CO, and Peggy (Dale) Gilbert of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Maynard, Jr. (Evelyn) Goff and Brad (Pat) Goff; sister-in-law, Beverly (Bill) Crandall; and a host of in-laws and friends.

Memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church or the Animal Rescue League.
