Bruce Brandt

Bruce G. Brandt, 59, of Des Moines died April 13 at home. He was born on Feb. 16, 1955 in St. Paul to Dorothy and Quentin Brandt. He graduated from Prairie Du Chien High School in 1973, and later earned a bachelors degree from the University of Minnesota. He was married to Beth Drees in 1983, and they made their home in Iowa, first in Clarion for four years and then in Des Moines. Bruce was a longtime administrative assistant to the Iowa House Republican leadership. He also had an encyclopedic knowledge of all kinds of music, was an enthusiastic cook, and a master of crossword puzzles. He is survived by his wife, his father, of Roseville, Minn., and by his brother Steven (Lynda McDonnell), of Minneapolis, and sisters, Barbara (Edward) Myers, of Prairie due Chien, and Christine Carlson, of Clarkston, Mich. A celebration of his life will be held later in Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport.
