Byron Augspurger, M.D.
Byron B. Augspurger, M.D., 87, passed from this life on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his home in Indianola, IA. In agreement with his wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, at Iles Dunn's Chapel in Des Moines.
Byron was born on February 14, 1926, in Pulaski, IA, to Russell W. and Nellie E. (Bohi) Augspurger. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Iowa in 1952. For 40 years, Byron practiced medicine in Des Moines.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty Augspurger of Indianola; daughter, Janet (Steve) Young of Waukee; son, Steve (Debbie) Augspurger of Dubuque; three brothers, Keith Augspurger and Arden (Donna) Augspurger both of Van Meter, IA and Dwayne Augspurger of Marion; sister, Rose Marie Brehm of Clifton Springs, NY; four grandchildren, Megan (Josh) Cohen of Boston, MA, Ryan (Shelby) Young of Des Moines, Christine Augspurger of Boston and Katie Augspurger of Dubuque; and three great-grandchildren. Byron was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy (Henderson) Augspurger; and one brother, Roger Augspurger.
The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to either, American Friends Service Committee - Iowa Program; or Heifer International in Arkansas.
