D. Charlene (La Plant) Cowden passed away August 19th, 2014. Charlene was born October 11,1932 to Jesse and Ulala La Plant in Des Moines, Iowa. She is survived by her husband of 61 yr. Jim Cowden. They had three children, Connie (deceased) (Tom) Thomsen, Ronald (Brenda) Cowden and daughter Dyanna Cowden. Grandchildren are Cory (Stephani), Chad (Cierra), Kelly (Mandi) and Tyler (Tia) Stubbs and Three Great Grandchildren.

Char is survived by sister Delores Dehart (George) and four nieces and nephews and four Great nephews.

Among other things Char will be remembered for her yearly Summer Celebration Dinners for 100 people. She was fond of cruising, Tour Iowa and boating on the lake. Family loved that she sent them birthday and anniversary cards every year for 30 years. She was a life long member of the West Des Moines Christian Church.

She led her life with Giving and Compassion and all who knew her Rejoiced to call her friend.

Friends and family are invited to Celebration of Life that will be held from 2 to 5 on Saturday August 23 at the Elks Lodge located at 2060 NW 94th Street Clive.

A Memorial Service will be Monday, August 25th at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 11 AM. VC is centrally located approximately 10 miles west of Des Moines and runs south along Interstate 80 in Dallas County near the community of Van Meter. (I-80, Exit 113). Interstate signs mark the exit.
