Daniel C. Ellis
Daniel C. Ellis passed away on Wednesday April 3, 2013, at Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday April 8, 2013 at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church 2747 E. Madison Ave in Des Moines.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time, and burial will be in Altoona Cemetery with Military Honors.
Daniel was born in Cedar Rapids on March 24, 1928 to Clarence and Gladys (Regnet) Ellis, He graduated from East High School in Des Moines, and Drake University from 1950 to 1952. Daniel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in Marriage on August 7, 1965 to Mary Wood in Kewanee, IL.
After retirement he enjoyed delivering meals on wheels and working as an usher at Veterans Auditorium. His interests were camping, the stock market, news, sports, politics, gardening, traveling to national and state parks and his fellowship with his church family. Dan was an active member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church and served on the Prize of Iowa Credit Union Board. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellis; children, Steven Ellis, Elizabeth Arthur (Daniel) and Katherine DeJong (Brad); his grandchildren, Claire, Guerin, and Blake DeJong; and his brother, Robert Ellis. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be given to Staves Memorial United Methodist Church.
